VACCINE PREVENTABLE DISEASES IN TRAVEL HEALTH WORKSHEET

  • Feeling a bit rusty and want to do a bit of revision? Why not have a go at this worksheet using Travel Health Pro and/or the Green Book?

  • Only doing a selection of vaccines but need to be able to talk about everything? (which you SHOULD if you are following the guidance)

  • Just starting out and finding the whole thing just a little overwhelming? . This will help organise your thoughts and help the information to 'go in'. You will get there I PROMISE!!!

TIP: Could you put a completed copy of this in your study file? (check out the education section of the site for my course preparation suggestions on creating a study file before or after a virtual or F2F course)

Just starting out? Or feeling a bit rusty? You might also find this extract from the workbook that I use on foundation immunisation courses helpful

VACCINE SCHEDULING TOOL

This can be used firstly as a revision tool to check your understanding of all the different schedules or to complete using Travel Health Pro and/or the Green Book. This can then double up as a useful cheat sheet if you need something quick to refer to during discussions.

The template can be printed or laminated* so you can use it during your consultations to decide on the best schedules for your traveller.

TIP: *laminating it saves the environment and means it's much easier to scribble it all out and start again when you suddenly realise you have scheduled MMR too close to YFV... You and the traveler can take a photo for the records. Handy when they return the following week and it's a different travel health advisor! Your colleagues will thank you for being so organised and the traveler will have a record of exactly what the plan is!

Well, until the fridge malfunctions or the vaccine delivery fails to arrive on time.... we all know how it can go sometimes. Best laid plans an' all that.

VACCINES AT A GLANCE

  • Feeling a bit rusty and want to check that you know what's out there these days? Why not use this to test yourself or have a go at completing it using Travel Health Pro and/or the Green Book??

  • Only doing a selection of vaccines and want to know more about the vaccines you DON'T administer? (which you SHOULD know the basics about if you are following the guidance)

  • Just starting out and finding the whole thing just a little overwhelming? (don't worry - it DOES go in eventually!). Simplified, brief info on one page. What more could you ask for?

Well, apart from a PGD, the Green Book, a nice cup of coffee, and more time to digest it all....

TIP: Could you put a copy of this in your study file? (check out the education section of the website for my course preparation suggestions on creating a study file before or after a virtual or F2F course)

Complex trip or traveler?

No problem.

These two resources are an AMAZING starting point for your own learning- and that of the traveler themselves. You know me, I LOVE a good factsheet!

Bear in mind that the CDC Yellow Book is American and although we should be following UK guidance, there are some brilliant chapters on the same things that our UK travelers might encounter.

Vaccine manufacturers have some really useful resources, such as vaccine record books, leaflets, posters, world epidemiology maps, search tools, and free training modules. Click on the pictures to get to some useful FREE resources (please note I have no affiliation or preference for any particular drug companies and I am not being paid to promote anyone - these are just a selection of sites I thought you might find useful TRY ALL of the drug companies. They all have useful stuff to offer!)

Don't forget that your local representatives can often come in to your clinic if you need a bit of top up education. Reps are a font of knowledge and can educate your teams on very specific drugs. They know a HUGE amount about their products, and in my experience are SUPER PASSIONATE which is always an empowering experience.
